Beat the Winter Blues and Stay Active with Trail Point

Feeling down after the holiday season? We get it. The weather is gloomy, icy, and cold. Although we like to warm up with a craft beer (IPA’s are my favorite), there are other ways to stay warm and happy. At Trail Point Brewing, we offer guided yoga and have recently added a HIIT class (high-intensity interval training) which according to gettingfit.com has been proven to burn fat, increase energy, and improve fitness. Trail Point Brewing’s yoga is led by Moon Guidance Yoga Movement & Healing Collective (check them out on Facebook) and all skill levels are welcome. You may be asking yourself, why yoga? What does that have to do with craft beer at a microbrewery? At Trail Point, it’s not just about the beer, it’s about community, and living your best life.


What is yoga? Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline that includes controlling your breath, meditating, and engaging in certain bodily postures. Yoga is a great way to heal and exercise both your mind and body. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (https://www.nccih.nih.gov/health/yoga-what-you-need-to-know) suggests that research shows that practicing yoga can be used for stress management, improving mental health, promoting healthy eating and habits, improving sleep, and enhancing balance. The best part about yoga is that any age and fitness level can participate. Moves can be modified to make them easier or more difficult, so don’t be afraid!


Let’s talk about HIIT… What exactly is it? HIIT is high-intensity interval training. HIIT involves pushing your cardio workout to the next level by working out at an intense level, slowing down to recover, then upping the intensity again. Webmd.com says that this strategy saves you time instead of working out at a steady pace, which you would have to do for longer. This method of exercise can be done by anyone, beginner or expert, but requires motivation and stamina. Our HIIT instructor, Demi Hamilton, can help assess what level you are at and how to modify exercises to fit your body.


Now let’s get to the most important part, why am I telling you all of this? Well, it’s because exercise can have so many positive impacts on your life, including physical and mental.
